Jason and the Argonauts Fim Review

The film Jason and the Argonauts was a great movie. The audience would probably learn a lot of values in life in it. Values like perseverance, determination and teamwork. They will also learn a lot about Greek Mythology, how great Greece was back in the days and how politics works in Greece back then.

The film started with invasion of Lolcus, the homeland of Jason, where he luckily escapes together with a trusted soldier and bringing an amulet of Hera that was given to him by her mother. After many years, Pelias, the uncle of Jason and now the king of Lolcus, was told that by an oracle that a man with one sandal would seize the throne so Pelias ordered his guards that when they see a man with one sandal, they would bring it to him and be persecuted. On the other hand, Jason was already on his way to the kingdom when he stopped to help the Goddess Hera who was disguised as an old woman to cross a river. Here Jason lost one of his sandals but he learned from the woman a way to outwit Pelias.
When the guards saw Jason wearing only one sandal they brought him to Pelias to be executed. On Jason and Pelias' meeting, Jason asked his uncle to give him back his throne. Pelias didn't compel with this and decided to kill Jason but when Jason said that he will get the Golden Fleece for him. The later agreed and let him took a group of men to join him in his quest. Jason got of group of strange men which was named the argonauts.

On their way to the Golden Fleece, Jason and the Argonauts Battled out Poseidon, which was sent by Zeus, the temptations of Lemnos, where they were nearly tricked by the army of woman, the Harpies, where they saved Phineus, and lastly the Clashing Rocks, where they saw and saved the son of the king of Colchis. After all these trials they arrived to Colchis, were Jason was given another sets of trials. He was tasked by king Aetes to battle out the bull with bronze hooves and horns and defeat the army of dragon-tooth. In both tasked Jason was the victor but king Aetes was naive and doesn't want the fleece to leave his land so he decided to marry Jason to his daughter Medea. In this way the fleece would still be on his side but Jason needs to get back to Lolchus for his mother would be persecuted if he will not return, so he fought the guardian of the Fleece. After aquiring the fleece Jason returned to Lolchus, where then Medea tricked Pelias to his death. The death of Pelias made Jason the king and then he married Medea and lived happily ever after.

The actor Jason London, who played the role of Jason in the movie, did rather a good job in his role. He was able to show Jason's willingness and determination to acquire the Golden Fleece. He was able to absorb the role Jason because he has that leader-like attitude yet an innocent one which he used to make his character more realistic. The other characters also gave justice to their roles. The one who played Hercule's role, Brian Thompson, was suited for his role for his body built was perfect for someone who plays the role of a very strong manlike Hercules. I was a little bit disappointed to the costumes of the characters, especially the soldiers, they only have like two differences, the helmet and the shield I was a bit confuse on which army a soldier was.
For the editing, I can say that they did a good job. The transitions where sometimes good but sometimes bad. One transition that was very good for me was the transition of the young Jason to the grown up one that was having a flashback. Some transitions were bad because sometimes I'd be surprised that one scene would suddenly shift to another even though the idea was no yet delivered clearly.
The sound effects were also good. The background music sets up the mood of the scenes. The other sound effects were also good. The roar of monsters, the waves, the clashing of swords and many more were great. They were in sync with the scenes and the movements of the character.
On the contrary, the lighting of the movie was a bit dull and a bit lifeless. The graphics are also bad. The monsters like the bull, the titan, the harpies and many more looked like computerized and unreal. Another thing about the graphics that made me disappointed was the fight of Jason with the dragon-tooth army. His moves were so scripted and not realistic. I don't understand why they have poor animations and graphics because during the year 2000 technology was already in a streak and it was already improved. I just can't understand that.
To conclude the movie was great. I'm thankful to our teacher, His Gwaponess Sir O, that he let us watch this movie. I learned about how to make a movie review and on the same time learned alot about Greece and its Myths. This was really a great movie and it was a great experience.
